NYPD Red by James Patterson, Review.

NYPD Red
NYPD Red by James Patterson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Good enough to keep me reading at speed. Which is why I like James Patterson so much. Short chapters, I find, keep me turning those pages (or indeed clicking through an ebook) at a supremely rapid pace.

The Chameleon (as he likes to call himself) is putting on a movie. One where famous people get killed in increasingly larger and elaborate ways. Trouble is, this “movie” is only being filmed in the perpetrators’ head; and the murders are real.

Detectives Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald have known each other for years, but only now have they been partnered together in the illustrious NYPD Red task force. Kylie has a link into the movie world through her husband, allowing for a certain amount of “under cover” operations to take place. Until the Chameleon and his associates work out who’s chasing him/them.

A fairly straightforward cat and mouse game ensues. Not as twisty and turny as some of Patterson’s other crime novels, but a solid and satisfactory story.
