Watson, on the request of a distraught woman, goes to an opium den to find her husband and bring him home. Whilst there, he locates Sherlock Holmes who is “under cover” and on a case of his own. A man is missing, presumed dead, and Sherlock is on the case.
One of the shorter Holmes’ stories, and that’s actually a good thing. Not the most gripping of narratives, and at this point Conan Doyle becomes a bit lax in his storytelling, forgetting that Watson’s first name is John, here calling him James!
Still, another one checked off the list!
